Cupro fabric: what it is and how it is produced
Both summer and winter, cupro is a fiber that is born inside the staple of cotton, with short, downy filaments found around the seed. Once extracted and cleaned, they are processed until they become pure cellulose. This fiber is defined artificialdue to the chemical transformation process which makes it an unnatural product to all intents and purposes, even if it boasts a poorly “built” structure.
In fact, it is a biodegradable material which allows the recycling of all waste and waste products, as well as a production of zero emissions equal to 99.8 (already in 2016). Fresh, delicate, elastic, breathableresistant and shiny: it is no coincidence that the cupro fabric is also nicknamed “vegetable silk”.
Cupro or viscose?
The natural and chemical mix of this fiber allows it to be as delicate on the skin as it is elastic and shiny. Loved for its maximum abrasion and friction index, which avoids irritation or allergies on the body, its structure does not allow the deposit of detergent substances, avoiding any case of allergy. Its spinning process is only slightly different from that of viscose, making the two fabrics very similar indeed. To preserve the characteristics of the fibers obtained from cotton the wash some cupro is preferable by hand, in cold water. Even if it lends itself, with some precautions, also to washing machinewith a delicate wash cycle and air dry.
For dresses, skirts, trousers and more
All the characteristics just listed make the cupro fabric the perfect ally of breathable and comfortable summer outfits, but no less glamorous for this. The “vegetable silk”, given its elasticity, is suitable for stockings and linings of dresses and skirts. But also for making long garments clothes, midi skirts, jackets And trousers. In fact, there are many brands (both designer and ready-to-wear) that have integrated cupro in their latest collections, replacing it with polyester and other chemical fabrics.
