Another big stunt in the cup. AFC Amsterdam eliminated PEC Zwolle in the first round of the KNVB Cup tonight. On their own field, the amateurs managed to beat the number nine of the Premier League with a late goal.
PEC had a hard time against the Amsterdam team from the first half. The professionals from Zwolle searched in vain for an opening goal in the second half, but were frustrated by the AFC defense. The team from Amsterdam seemed to take the lead fifteen minutes before the end, but substitute Raily Ignacio’s goal was disallowed for offside.
In the final phase, substitute Wessel Been headed his club to a 1-0 victory at Sportpark Goed Genoeg. He had been on the field for a minute when he scored. AFC is in tenth place in the second division.

Tonight, two other North Holland clubs also qualified for the next round of the cup. RKAV Volendam was too strong for Eemdijk with 5-0. Berry Smit’s team easily won in the FC Volendam stadium thanks to goals from Roy Tol (2x), Jim Beers, Daan van Baars and Stefan Plat.
DEM also had a good cup evening. They won 3-1 against Hoogeveen on their own field. The team from Beverwijk was already 3-0 ahead within half an hour. Thomas de Vries quickly scored twice and Brooklyn Riley van Doorneveld set the margin at three in favor of the North Hollanders. Jeroen Kamphuis returned the favor on behalf of the visitors, but DEM continued to convert.
