That was the result of the draw on Sunday (March 6th, 2022) in the sports show, broadcast from the German Football Museum in Dortmund. Laura Nolte, Olympic champion in two-berbob, drew the lots in the presence of national coach Hansi Flick.
The semifinals are scheduled for April 19th and 22nd, with the final in Berlin on May 21st.
Freiburg in the semifinals for the first time in nine years
Leipzig had confidently prevailed at second division club Hannover 96 (4-0) on Wednesday and could reach the final for the third time after 2019 and 2021. For the first time in nine years, Freiburg are back in the semi-finals after their last-minute win in extra time at VfL Bochum (2-1).
HSV, the only semi-finalist to have already won the cup, had also qualified for the semi-finals in the only second division duel against Karlsruher SC (3-2 penalties), Union Berlin had already won 2-1 against FC St .Pauli celebrated. The two permanent finalists Bayern Munich (2nd round) and Borussia Dortmund (round of 16) failed early on.
Women’s semifinals: Bayern vs. Wolfsburg
The women’s DFB Cup semifinals were also drawn in the sports show. Champion Bayern Munich welcomes permanent cup winner VfL Wolfsburg to a top duel. The other semi-final is played by Bayer Leverkusen and Turbine Potsdam.
