Cup missing: Amsterdam RAP again plays the final of 1899 for a replica

The very first winner of the KNVB Cup was in 1899 sv RAP. The Amsterdam amateur club received the Holdert cup for this, named after the creator of the cup tournament Hak Holdert. Until 1944, the challenge cup was awarded annually, but since then it has been lost. On Saturday 17 September, RAP will play for a replica of the cup against DSV Concordia from Delft.

The match is played on the Wageningse Berg, the home of first divisionist FC Wageningen until bankruptcy in 1992. Incidentally, the first cup final in 1899 was between RAP and HVV and the team from Amsterdam won 1-0 after extra time. Interestingly enough, the cup ended up in the trophy cabinet of Holdert’s own club, since he was the treasurer there at the time.

DSV Concordia, which celebrates its 135th anniversary this year and won the cup in 1906, took the initiative and approached all surviving football clubs that have ever won the Holdert Cup. They are invited and will receive their replica after the match. Among those clubs are Koninklijke HFC (winner 1904, 1913 and 1915), Ajax (1917, and 1943), RCH (1918) and VSV (1938).
