Tonight Ajax will play the final for the KNVB Cup against PSV. The match in the Rotterdamse Kuip starts at 6 pm and can of course be followed live on the radio at NH Sport. Our extra sports broadcast starts at 4 p.m.
The Amsterdammers won the pinecone twenty times in club history. Six finals were lost. The last time that happened to Ajax was in 2014, coincidentally also on Easter Monday. After an early lead, that final had to be stopped for some time due to fireworks on the field. The interruption had disastrous consequences; PEC Zwolle swept Ajax off the mat with 5-1.
The finals that followed were brought to a successful conclusion by Ajax. In 2019 it became 4-0 against Willem II and last season prevented substitute David Neres with his goal in the last minute of extra time (2-1).
For PSV it has been a while since they reached the final battle for the national cup. That last happened nine years ago; AZ turned out to be too strong with 2-1 at the time.
