Coach Thomas Tuchel has made no secret of his desire for new players for FC Bayern in the past. Ex-professional Mehmet Scholl now expressed an explosive suspicion.
In the “Sky” program “Triple – Der Schüttflix Football Talk” Scholl indicated that Tuchel had accepted an elimination in the DFB Cup against FC Saarbrücken (1:2) in order to make it clear to the Bayern bosses that that the Munich squad needs to be strengthened.
“I don’t want to say he sacrificed the game on purpose. But I don’t think he unconsciously used the game to point out deficiencies in the squad,” said the 53-year-old.
With the cup embarrassment, Tuchel “killed several birds with one stone”. “He rested the superstars for Dortmund. The rest of the team got their chance,” continued Scholl. However, the substitute players were unable to use this.
FC Bayern’s “second suit” is too bad
“Tuchel threw the second suit into the race,” the eight-time German champion further analyzed and added: “And this suit has proven to be unsuitable. How are players who can’t even beat Saarbrücken supposed to help win the Champions League? “
However, Scholl doesn’t believe that Tuchel lost intentionally: “I assume that Tuchel expected a narrow victory. However, the worst case scenario happened. He didn’t expect that.”
Despite the cup defeat, the TV expert sees the pressure not on Tuchel, but on the Bayern bosses. “I see confirmation,” remarked Scholl and raved highly about Tuchel: “I think he is incredibly intelligent and a top coach.”
In the summer, Tuchel spoke publicly about his desire for a new six. For this he received a reprimand from Honorary President Uli Hoeneß. But the club patron has now given in. “If we come across good arguments for it, we are fundamentally not against it. Our trainer gets everything that is necessary,” he said at a charity event organized by the German record champions at Circus Roncalli.
