A difficult task awaits the BR Volleys in the first round of the German Volleyball Cup: The Berliners have to play against the cup defender VfB Friedrichshafen at the beginning of November. That was the result of the draw on Friday evening in Hamburg.
It is the only pure Bundesliga duel in the round of 16. All other first division clubs will first meet regional cup winners who have yet to be determined. The Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee are guests in the first round at the regional cup winners East/South. The first main round with 16 teams will take place on November 5th and 6th.
Cup defenders Friedrichshafen had eliminated the Netzhoppers in round one of last season’s cup competition (3:1) and later in the semi-finals in front of their own audience against the BR Volleys despite being two sets behind with 3:2.
In the final of the German championship, the club from the capital managed to take revenge after a historic comeback against the team from Lake Constance. With 3:2 wins the Berliners took the title.
