Making performances and going on the farm with it, throughout the Netherlands: theater Ogterop in Meppel claims to be the first theater in Drenthe to do this. The first show is now a fact and will premiere on Saturday.
With the title †I was in a shit show but my hair was really good† actress and artistic director Lotte Dunselman can already win the prize for the most unique name for a show. “The writer of the piece once caught that when she was talking to an actress,” Dunselman laughs. “We are happy with it, because we often hear that it is a strong title.”
Stereotype
The performance focuses on the position of women in society. According to Dunselman, women have only recently been given the same opportunities as men in the field of work. The chasm is still there, she finds and she wants to expose it. “Usually it is the men who are the stars of a production, women often have a supporting role in the story. Theater remains a man’s world, but it doesn’t have to be that way.”
The actress believes that women are often pressed into a certain role. “It’s about the well-known stereotypes,” she explains. “I was recently interviewed and then I was asked what I still wanted to do with my career. The interviewer was curious how I was going to achieve all that since I am also a mother. I thought that was very special, because such a question would never put it to my husband.”
