Culy Homemade: pina colada milkshake for tropical vibes

A traditional pina colada is made with pineapple, coconut milk and white rum (or, in a non-alcoholic pina colada, with pineapple juice). This pina colada milkshake contains cognac, which gives it some extra depth and warmth. By the way, also very nice to do with vieux, say the Dutch variant of cognac. We asked chef Rein op t’ Root for the secret recipe of this criminally delicious pina colada milkshake – also known as the Henny Colada. Wet your chest.

For two cocktails

For the Hennessy Colada:

  • 6 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 300 ml Secret Colada Syrup (see below)
  • 4 shots (180 ml) of Hennessy or cognac
  • 1 splash of milk
  • 2 splashes of cream
  • Juice and zest of 1 lime

For the Secret Colada Syrup:

  • 1/2 liter of water
  • 500 grams of sugar
  • 1/2 sprig of rosemary
  • 1/4 pineapple cubes
  • 1 small can of coconut milk (165 ml)

This is how you make this Hennessy Colada

Step one: put on Conga by Gloria Estefan.

First make the Secret Colada Syrup: heat the sugar with the water and the sprig of rosemary in a saucepan. When the sugar has dissolved and you have a hot syrup, pour it on top of the pineapple. Pour the coconut milk on top and mix it with a hand blender.

Then put the ingredients for the Hennessy Colada in a blender and mix well. Serve with a straw in a plastic cup. A tall glass is also allowed.
