According to the artists and cultural houses, the white flag also represents hope and impartiality. “With this conceptual flag we highlight the hard fact that peace is not freely available,” say Koosje Schmeddes and Dirk Schellekens of art collective Schscht. “The watermark on the flag is a metaphor for the price of peace. We know this will not stop the many wars in the world, but we cannot do nothing.”
In our province, the flags fly at the Brugge Cultural Center (Bruges), Buda Cultural Center (Kortrijk), Mu.zee, De Grote Post and the Kursaal (Oostende).
