Cult Gaia has grown from humble beginnings with handmade floral wreaths and turbans into one of the most desirable brands. The popular bags designed like works of art, the architectural shoes and the feminine outfits are all designed and crafted with great attention to detail.
origins
Jasmin Hekmat founded Cult Gaia in 2012, right after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and after internships with Narciso Rodrigues and Jason Wu. Since her mother is a fashion designer herself and her father is the owner of the toy company that invented the Bratz dolls (Yasmin, one of the four original Bratz dolls, was named after Jasmine), it’s not surprising that she ended up starting her own fashion brand . She began making headpieces and floral wreaths for her friends, who encouraged her to pursue her hobby as a career.
evolution
In 2014, Jasmin created the Bamboo Ark Bag. This bag was a secret for two years before it was all over Instagram and being worn by stars and influencers – becoming the it-piece that catapulted Cult Gaia to the top of the fashion world. Evolving into ready-to-wear and footwear seemed like a logical next step for the brand.
Cult Gaia’s style is feminine and uncomplicated, no frills and with a natural look and feel. One of the brand’s guiding principles is “Perfection is imperfect, just as nature intended”. The collections are classic but always with an “it factor” that has been part of the brand’s DNA since day one.
Current
The aim of Hekmat was and is to create wearable art that has a permanent place in our wardrobes. Over the years, Cult Gaia has grown into a lifestyle brand offering ready-to-wear, shoes, accessories, swimwear and most recently, sunglasses. The brand is now available online and offline at some of the most reputable retailers.
