It is not festive, the temporary winter closure that begins for the Cuby Museum in Grolloo. Nevertheless, a small party was celebrated this morning. The museum around Harry Muskee’s blues formation Cuby & The Blizzards received the 4,600th visitor this year, which is a visitor record for the ‘blues farm’ in Grolloo.
That 4600th visitor was Erena Klijn Velderman from Lochem. She visited the Cuby Museum with her husband. She was festively welcomed by chairman Lukas Koops and took a bunch of flowers and the book Somebody Will Know Someday in receipt.
The couple is away for a weekend in Drenthe and also wanted to visit the museum in Grolloo. “It is the first time that we are in the museum. We used to go to performances by Cuby & The Blizzards. For example in the Buitenlust hall in Harfsen,” says Erena Klijn Velderman.
The old visitor record was more than 4500 visitors, which was achieved last year. The organization behind the museum is proud of it, also because the building has been open to a limited extent this year, mainly only from Thursday to Sunday.
After today, the Cuby Museum will close its doors for three months. In this way, the initiators try to save on the high energy costs. Normally, the museum would still be open on Sundays during the winter months. The board is actually disappointed with its own decision: “But we have to, otherwise we will be faced with irresponsible expenditure. By temporarily closing, we hope to reduce consumption by a quarter, so that our monthly costs can go down again next year.”
The C+B Museum will reopen on 1 March 2023.
