Crystal Palace: 75-year-old Hodgson set to return as manager

“I don’t think I’ll be making my name available for any further engagements in the world of Premier League football,” Roy Hodgson said in May 2022 after failing to save Watford from relegation. Around ten months later it is apparently time again: The 75-year-old is to take over the vacant post at Crystal Palace.

The “Eagles” parted ways with previous coach Patrick Vieira last Friday after he had not won in 2023 and slipped to 12th place in the Premier League (to the table). Hodgson is said to be following a report by “Sky Sports” according to the successor and receive a short-term contract until the end of the season.

For the English coaching legend it would be a return to his old place of work. Between 2017 and 2021, Hodgson had been on the touchline in 162 games at Crystal Palace, averaging 1.22 points per game. With the same cut, after just over a year and a half, Vieira had to pack his bags. At 75, Hodgson, who has managed 22 different clubs and national teams throughout his career, would be by far the oldest manager of the 20 Premier League clubs. Currently, that’s West Ham’s David Moyes, aged 59.
