There is increasing noise about the impossible way in which Pieter Omtzigt would behave in politics in The Hague. The politician plays a crucial role with his NSC party when it comes to the formation of a new cabinet, but takes a very rigid position. Telegraaf star Wouter de Winther has now revealed that he also always cries during formation talks.

Peter? Not suitable!

Omtzigt is very angry that this has come out and calls it ‘gossip’. “I just don’t hear him say that what I said is not correct and I think that is the crux,” Wouter responds in the talk show Renze on Sunday. “You can want people not to talk about it, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.”

“The sad thing is that this man, together with Renske Leijten, deserves a statue for the benefits affair. An excellent Member of Parliament who has drawn the blood from under the nails of ministers, but now he is in a different phase, namely that of leadership. This is not what he is suitable for and everyone in The Hague knows that.”

Personal drama

It has been about Omtzigt’s mental state for years. He also once misbehaved terribly behind the scenes during an episode of HLF8 presented by Hélène Hendriks.

Wouter: “Many journalists and politicians have also experienced this with him and also find this a personal tragedy, because he should actually be offered an opportunity to do the work he is good at, instead of being stuck in the mold of making decisions and lead a faction.”

Angela is done

Angela de Jong, who eventually wants to exchange her TV columns for political columns, thinks that Omtzigt is making a mess of it. “I am mainly disappointed in how things are going. That it is another gang from The Hague that is concerned with each other instead of the problems in the country.”

And that crying? You cannot govern the country with that, says Angela. “Surely no one from those other parties, as a right-thinking person, will sit in a coalition with someone who walks away with holiness and who says yes at one moment and no at the next? Returns to decisions. That’s impossible?”

‘That is not possible’

AD reporter Elodie Verweij then: “No, on the one hand that is not possible, but on the other hand: it is not in proportion to each other. We also had a Mark Rutte who had tantrums.”

Angela: “I think that is different from someone who does not dare to make decisions and goes back on previous promises.”

Elodie: “Yes, that is also very complicated, but at some point he also has to make decisions.”
