Crowds at tailors: ‘Young people also know where to find us’

Latif sees that the same people come back to the store more often. He also sees a shift in the target group that visits the studio.

“I’ve been here for fifteen years. In the beginning, mainly older people came, but nowadays we also attract a younger target group. Young people also want to use their clothes for longer.”

“I think there are two reasons for this,” continues Latif. “The young people are careful with their clothes and therefore their wallets, but they also try to think about how they can save the environment as much as possible.”

Rezwana Hussaini joins Latif’s story. She is the owner of the sewing workshop in Beilen. She thinks it’s a good thing that more people are having their clothes repaired these days.

“Customers sometimes tell us that they are happy that we exist, because new clothes are too expensive. Prices have actually risen everywhere. People used to throw their clothes away faster, now they come to have it repaired. People nowadays think it’s a waste to throw it away,” says Hussaini .

She sees a lot of new customers, but that’s also because her business hasn’t been around that long. What Hussaini does notice is that people who come by once also come back more often. “We are often told that we work neatly. The customers are satisfied.”
