The organization of the Liberation Festival in Assen again calls on people not to come to Assen. This was decided after consultation with the authorities. “The gates are closed,” reports the organization.
Earlier this afternoon, around half past four, people were also called upon not to come to Assen, because of the crowds. Chairman Ger Boes estimated at the time that there were between 25,000 and 35,000 people on the site. “It’s never been this busy.” About an hour later the site was accessible again.
Boes thinks that the crowds are partly due to the Liberation Festival in Groningen, where you have to pay an entrance fee to enter the site. He heard those sounds coming this week. “I heard from someone who has two bars in Groningen that everyone goes to Assen.” Incidentally, Boes says that the crowds are also due to the line-up in Assen. “We have an artist here from Groningen”, he refers to Kraantje Pappie. “Look what happens.”
The chairman beams at the site. “We have beautiful music here. And with this weather. Everyone is ready for a festival again. It couldn’t be more beautiful. It is really fantastic.”
