Cross-country star celebrates historic victory

The Norwegian Therese Johaug managed to win the 100th cross-country skiing World Cup just before she retired.

As usual, the 33-year-old prevailed confidently over the ten kilometers in the free technique in Swedish Falun, leaving Jonna Sundling (Sweden) and Jessica Diggins from the USA well behind.

The two team sprint Olympic champions Victoria Carl and Katharina Hennig finished 13th and 14th. Johaug had won in Oslo last week and after the glorious farewell at Holmenkollen he actually didn’t want to start in Falun anymore.

In the men’s race, Didrik Tönseth from Norway had won more than 15 kilometers earlier, leaving behind Calle Halfvarsson of Sweden and his teammate Harald Oestberg Amundsen.

The winners of the overall World Cups were already certain before the final individual races this Saturday: Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo from Norway collected the most points in the men’s race. The best woman of the winter was the Russian ️ Natalia Nepryaeva, who was recently not allowed to start because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
