cross-country skiing | Rydzek starts fourth in Estonia sprint

Cross-country skier Coletta Rydzek narrowly missed the podium in the freestyle sprint in the Estonian capital of Tallinn.

The girl from Oberstdorf made it into the final on Tuesday evening and took fourth place there. For the 25-year-old, it was the best World Cup result of her career.

She was 3.28 seconds short of the podium. Norway’s Kristine Stavas Skistad secured victory. The last German on a sprint podium so far remains Sandra Ringwald, who finished second in Cogne in February 2019.

Sofie Krehl (Oberstdorf/13th) and Pia Fink (Bremelau/24th) were eliminated in the quarterfinals, as was Laura Gimmler (Oberstdorf/16th), who last week in the classic sprint in Drammen, Norway, like Rydzek in fourth, achieved the best result of her career had scored.

For the men, Anian Sossau (Eisenärzt/21st) and Jan Stölben (Ernstberg/46th) had no chance when the Norwegian dominator Johannes Hösflot Kläbo won.
