12:53
Huge distances
If Ebba Andersson doesn’t collapse completely here, nobody can dispute her title anymore. The Swede is now 45 seconds ahead of the five-man group battling for silver and bronze. Behind them, Katharina Hennig and Co. are another half a minute behind.
12:50 p.m
Karlsson and Kalvå warned
Frida Karlsson and Anne Kjersti Kalvå have each received a verbal warning for disability.
12:48 p.m
Henry has to work
A quintet of Linn Svahn, Frida Karlsson, Rosie Brennan, Kerttu Niskanen and Anne Kjersti Kalvå has broken away and is currently fighting for silver and bronze. Behind them, Katharina Hennig is leading a trio and is trying to close the gap again.
12:46 p.m
Unterweger gives up
With the Austrian Lisa Unterweger, the first athlete has given up the race.
12:45 p.m
Andersson is gone
Has the gold medal already been awarded? Ebba Andersson circles lonely in Johaug-style and keeps expanding her lead. The Swede has almost half a minute on the competition.
12:44
The gap gets smaller
The Swedes Linn Svahn and Frida Karlsson have almost closed the gap to the chasing trio with great effort! In tow they have Katharina Hennig and Teresa Stadlober, among others, who have the medals in their sights again.
12:42 p.m
ski change
Almost all athletes change boards after 15 kilometers. This does not result in large shifts.
12:41
halftime
The first 15 kilometers have been completed. At half-time, Ebba Andersson of Sweden is clearly in the lead, 20 seconds ahead of her first three pursuers.
12:40 p.m
Hennig falls off
Katharina Hennig had imagined things differently. The German cannot keep up at the front and is already 25 seconds behind. Together with Frida Karlsson she leads the field chasing Kalvå, Brennan and Niskanen.
12:39 p.m
Niskanen and Brennan
Ebba Andersson flies! The Swede already has a ten-second lead and it’s getting bigger and bigger. Anne Kjersti Kalvå was joined by Rosie Brennan and Kerttu Niskanen. The trio set off in pursuit. There is a big gap behind it.
12:36
Andersson wants to go!
Ebba Andersson is now pulling through at the front and tearing the field apart. Only Anne Kjersti Kalvå from Norway tries to follow suit. Is there a preliminary decision that might already be made here?
12:35 p.m
Henry has problems
Katharina Hennig has problems keeping up with the speed increase at the front and is now eight seconds behind.
12:34
Andersson and Niskanen
Ebba Andersson is now aiming to narrow the field a bit at the front and keeps the pace high over a longer stretch. Kerttu Niskanen collaborates.
12:32
Gimmler falls behind
When it comes to the long climb, which has to be mastered four times, the favorites in front pull up again and five women from the top group fall behind. This also includes DSV runner Laura Gimmler.
12:28
22 athletes
The current leading group consists of 22 runners. Behind them there is a gap of 15 seconds. Frida Karlsson is setting the pace in front.
12:24
Saubrey far behind
While Fink and Gimmler are back at the front, Katherine Saurbrey is already struggling. The 25-year-old is already 36 seconds behind the leaders. Shortly ahead of her is the Swiss Anja Weber. Lisa Unterweger from Austria is missing more than two minutes.
12:23
Command back
The first attack at the top is over for now and ultimately didn’t have much of an effect. The pace was throttled again and the field is pushing together again.
12:19
Fink and Gimmler fall behind
Rosie Brennan is also upping the ante and the gaps are getting bigger. 13 athletes have settled at the front. Katharina Hennig is doing well, Pia Fink and Laura Gimmler are already eleven seconds behind the leaders.
12:16
Niskanen attracts
Slowly but surely, the wheat is separated from the chaff. Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen moves first, Sweden’s Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson call.
12:12
Ensign and Stadlober
With Nadine Fähndrich and Teresa Stadlober, Switzerland and Austria each have an athlete in the top group of around 20 runners.
12:09 p.m
Karlsson and Andersson
The two Swedes have now moved to the front and are slowly but surely picking up the pace. At the end of the field, the first athletes fall behind.
12:07 p.m
Gimmler and Fink in front
In addition to Katharina Hennig, two other DSV women, Laura Gimmler and Pia Fink, are at the top after three kilometers. That’s not surprising, since the pace is still slow. That would of course be important later if there was support for Katharina Hennig in the DSV team, as it is with the Swedes, Finns and Norwegians.
12:05
What are the tactics?
In recent years, Therese Johaug has often burst onto the scene early on and made her mark on her own. There is no clear favorite today and we can be curious to see who chooses which tactic here. Does the field stay together long? Is one of the Scandinavian teams pushing up front with teamwork?
12:03
Weng leads the way
Tiril Udnes Weng has initially taken the lead in the field. But the Norwegian doesn’t really push the pace, the field is still together. Katharina Hennig is also at the front.
12:01
46 runners on the way
Here we go! The concluding classic over 30 kilometers started with 46 participants. Who will be Therese Johaug’s successor?
12:00 p.m
perfect conditions
In bright sunshine and temperatures just above freezing, the athletes get ready. The starting shot will be given in a few moments.
11:48
Duos from Switzerland and Austria
Nadine Fähndrich and Anja Weber are on the road for Team Switzerland today. Sprint expert Fähndrich is not one of the top favorites in the long distance race, but can run in the top 15. For the 21-year-old Weber, it’s all about gaining experience. In Austria, hopes rest on Theresa Stadlober. The third place in the Olympics in skiathlon was recently affected by health, but is always good for a coup in distance races. Lisa Unterweger is the second Austrian to start.
11:43
Hennig can attack fully
Katharina Hennig had declared the classic race over the 30 kilometers in the run-up to the World Championships as one of her main goals. Now that the medal with the relay has already been bagged, the 26-year-old can go into the race relaxed and throw everything in. “It’s all done. The backpack is gone, I’ll go there without any pressure,” said Hennig in advance. Pia Fink, Laura Gimmler and Katherine Saubrey complete the DSV squad.
11:32
Open race expected
In the absence of Therese Johaug, who has retired, the rarely held classic over the 30 kilometers in the classic technique seems open like never before this year. Ebba Andersson from Sweden proved her class by triumphing in the skiathlon. The American Jessica Diggins won the individual in the freestyle technique, but is not there today. In addition to the two, the Finns Kerttu Niskanen and Krista Pärmäkoski as well as Tiril Udnes Weng from Norway and the Swede Frida Karlsson are among the favorites. The DSV hopes for Katharina Hennig.
