Swiss women in shape
The Swiss Alina Meier barely made it into the quarterfinals in 30th place and will run in Group E. Désirée Steiner and Anja Weber also survived the qualification – as did Nadine Fähndrich. The flagship of the Swiss women showed a strong qualification with a fourth place and is now hoping for a top placement. In Group B, in addition to Krehl, they also face Lotta Udnes Wenig and Linn Svahn from Sweden.

DSV hopes for Carl
Victoria Carl was able to celebrate her first World Cup podium and even World Cup victory this season – and today the 28-year-old still has the best chance of a top placement. She came eighth in the qualification and is in the comparatively feasible Group C. With Pia Fink, Sofie Krehl and Coletta Rydzek, a German quartet made it past the qualification. However, Pia Fink and Sofie Krehl will have a very difficult time in the strong groups A and B. Coletta Rydzek is running against, among others, Emma Ribbon and Rosie Brennan in Group D. The only Austrian, Teresa Stadlober, failed to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Diggins against the Scandinavians
The top favorite among women doesn’t come from Sweden, Finland or Norway – no, with Jessie Diggins, an American woman has the best chance of winning the tour. The 32-year-old is a strong all-rounder and is particularly excellent in freestyle technique. Rosie Brennan, another cross-country skier from the USA, should not be underestimated. In qualifying, Diggins finished second behind Sweden’s Jonna Sundling. It can be assumed that both will meet again in the final.

Start of the Tour de Ski
It’s that time again – the Tour de Ski is in the starting blocks! The cross-country skiers will complete seven different, strenuous stages in three locations and two different countries. Like every year, the mountain climb to Alpe Cermis at the beginning of January is the crowning conclusion of the tour. It starts with the sprints in the freestyle technique. The women’s quarterfinals in Toblach, Italy, start at 2:30 p.m.
