Fähndrich with the best time after one kilometer
The Swiss took the lead from Sossau after one kilometer. At this point the Swiss was two seconds faster than the German.

Brugger and Fähndrich on the way
Brugger and Fähndrich have now also taken to the track. It’s almost time for Lucas Bögl

Sossau loses something
After two kilometers Sossau loses the lead. Despite clean technique in a 1:1 rhythm, Young is one second ahead of Sossau. The Swede leads by five seconds at kilometer two

Sossau with a good start
Sossau currently has the best time after 1km. He is two seconds ahead of Chappaz and Young. The American Jager is already ten seconds behind Sossau. Let’s see if the young German can keep up the pace.

Sossau opened
Here we go! The start has taken place. The German Sossau gets off to a quick start. In light snowfall and around minus 5 degrees, the athletes now take to the track every 30 seconds. The first stops for intermediate times are probably Andrew Young from Great Britain with start number three and Karl-Johan Westberg from Sweden with number seven. The next German will be Janosch Brugger with start number 13, followed by Cyril Fähndrich with number 15.

Four Swiss there – Klee with good chances
Four Swiss are at the start. The. Beda Klee probably has the best chance. Last week he shone with a strong ninth place. If he could repeat this result, he would probably be more than satisfied. It would be a success for Cyril Fähndrich, Candide Pralong and the sprinter Valerio Grond if they ended up in the top 30.

Quality instead of quantity in Austria
Mika Vermeulen holds the flag high for the Austrian cross-country skiing team. The 24-year-old already has a fourth and an eighth place in the freestyle this season. So it is also a hot candidate for places in the top ten. We’ll see whether he can annoy the Norwegians when he starts the 10km with start number 64.
Benjamin Moser will also try to get a few World Cup points with start number 79. However, it won’t be that easy for him.

German hope rests on Moch
Five Germans will try to get into the World Cup points today. Anian Sossau will at least initially set the first best times with start number one. We hope that this lasts as long as possible. In the end, however, it would be a success if he ends up in the World Cup points. The same applies to the young Jan Stölben, who is the last German to start the race with start number 57. Janosch Brugger, who has the start number, will also have a hard time achieving a top placement with his unpopular skating technique. We can have a little more hope for the new father Lucas Bögl, who wears starting number 25. However, the greatest hopes rest on Friedrich Moch. After his very strong relay performance last week, he wants his first top ten result in the individual. We are excited to see what the young German from Isny is capable of. He will start the race as start number 37. Directly behind him is the strong Norwegian Sjur Roethe. We hope that this order will continue at the finish.

The favorites come from Norway
To really list all the favorites who have a chance of jumping onto the podium, you would have to list over ten athletes. The eight Norwegian athletes alone have the chance to run for the podium. Last week over the same distance, six of the top seven places went to Norway. Only Briton Andrew Musgrave was able to break this dominance. Even today he is one of the hot candidates for a place on the podium. From a Norwegian perspective we have to look primarily at the overall World Cup leader Pål Golberg Harald Østberg Amundsen. We can be very excited about the winner of yesterday’s sprint, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo. The question of whether he can now also show this form in distance competitions will be answered today.

The competition route
A total of 86 runners will complete the 3.3km circuit three times, 30 seconds apart. The athletes have to climb 129 meters per lap. The ambitious runners are in the 27 to 70 range. The last starter, Fedele de Campo from Australia, will take to the track at 10:58 a.m.
