last break

There is a final break before the grand finale for the medals. Then the Swedes and Norwegians will duel.

15:41

2nd semi-final

When it comes to the final meters, it’s only Tiril Udnes Weng, Linn Svahn and Rosie Brennan who duel for the first two places. Who can prevail? Svahn is through with position one, Tiril Udne’s way also comes through. The remaining athletes are eliminated.

15:40

2nd semi-final

Rosie Brennan scrambles to the front, jumping to first position on the final climb. But can she get through it against the strong competition from Sweden? Gimmler is now having problems at the back. She cannot keep up with the increase in pace.

15:39

2nd semi-final

Laura Gimmler is doing well and is fourth, right behind the Swedes and the Norwegian. The Americans are behind them.

15:37

2nd semi-final

It continues with the second semi-final. Also present is Laura Gimmler from the German team, who will now try to secure one of the last places in the final. Her biggest rivals are likely to be Svahn and Hagstrom.

15:35

1. Semifinals

It’s not enough for Nadine Fähndrich! The Swiss athlete is only fifth in this heat and is therefore eliminated from the World Championship decision. Emma Ribom secures direct participation in the final in a close decision ahead of Kristine Stavås Skistad. Sundling and Dahlqvist have to hope for the time.

15:34

1. Semifinals

It’s the last climb and now Nadine Fähndrich has to do everything if she wants to get there again. Because the gap towards the Swiss is already there. Can she get there again?

15:32

1. Semifinals

Kristine Stavås Skistad from Norway, as you know from her, goes to the front right after the start and wants to start the race from the beginning. The three Swedes are lurking behind her. Nadine Fähndrich has to find her way forward behind her.

15:31

1. Semifinals

It continues with the first semi-final of the women. In the first heat there are three of the Swedish starters, who will certainly run tactically now to outperform Skistad and Fähndrich.

15:00

men’s turn

Now it’s on to the men’s quarterfinals. It is then the turn of the women for their semi-finals.

14:59

5. Quarterfinals

It goes up the last climb. Gimmler is still doing well and is doing great in second position. Can she pull through? Yes! Behind Johanna Hagström she crosses the line in second place and is therefore second in the semi-finals. Tereza Beranova progresses as third over time.

14:56

5. Quarterfinals

Laura Gimmler positions herself well in the first few meters and the German is currently doing the work at the front together with Hagström.

14:55

5. Quarterfinals

It’s about the last places in the semi-finals! Of the six starters, Laura Gimmler achieved the best result in qualifying. But it shouldn’t be easy, because Hagstrom, Diggins and Lotta Udnes Weng are among the players here.

14:53

4. Quarterfinals

The field is together for a long time, but on the final climb Linn Svahn slips out of the crowd and gets ahead of the rest of the group. She’ll easily get through first. Julia Kern takes the second direct place. Can Rydzek keep her lucky loser spot behind them? Unfortunately not. Svendsen was a tenth faster at the end and thus takes the place in the lucky losers.

14:49

4. Quarterfinals

A balanced fourth quarter-final awaits us. In this group only Linn Svahn qualified in the top ten. So it could be a close fight for the remaining places in the semifinals.

14:47

3. Quarterfinals

Jonna Sundling comes through on the first position, behind them Tiril Udnes Weng grabs the second direct place in the semifinals. Coletta Rydzek can still hope for the semifinals. She crosses the line third, taking second place behind Brennan on the lucky loser list.

14:45

3. Quarterfinals

And there’s another fall! Jasmi Joensuu from Finland lands in deep snow this time around the corner. Sundling and Udnes Weng can pull away as a result, there is already a huge gap behind them when it comes to the final climb.

14:44

3. Quarterfinals

The Swede also sets the pace in this heat and shapes the race from the front. But Colette Rydzek is still there. Only Kaleta from Poland falls behind a bit.

14:42

3. Quarterfinals

The next quarterfinals are about to start! The clear favorite here is certainly qualifier Jonna Sundling from Sweden. But the Norwegian Tiril Udnes Weng is also in this heat. Not an easy task for Coletta Rydzek from the DSV team if she wants to stay in the competition.

14:41

2. Quarterfinals

After a fairly fast run, Emma Ribom is the first athlete to cross the line and Nadine Fähndrich can also be happy about the direct progress. Brennan and Kähärä take the lucky loser spots. Carl is out.

14:40

2. Quarterfinals

Aggravating! Victoria Carl falls. The German lands in the snow, just where she had almost reconnected. The competitors are gone and Carl will no longer have a chance to reach the semifinals.

14:39

2. Quarterfinals

Now the gap opens! Emma Ribom, Nadine Fähndrich and Rosie Brennan loosen up in front and are now able to run away from their competitors. Can someone else fill the gap?

14:38

2. Quarterfinals

Victoria Carl currently finds herself in last place and already has to fight to keep up with the front. At the front, Ribom and Fähndrich do the tempo work.

14:37

2. Quarterfinals

In the second quarter-final, Nadine Fähndrich is the next athlete from Switzerland. Along with Emma Ribom, she is considered one of the favorites to progress. Victoria Carl from the German team is also at the starting line. If she runs a clever race, the semi-finals are certainly possible for her.

14:35

1. Quarterfinals

Czech Antosova falls, causing the athletes behind to fall back a little as they are held up. Maja Dahlqvist and Kristine Stavås Skistad finally come through on the first places. Cristina Meier is third ahead of Alina Meier. They must now hope that their times will be enough.

14:33

1. Quarterfinals

For Alina Meier it means staying tuned and hoping that she will do it over time. So far Skistad and Dahlqvist are doing well and have their rivals under control. Soon we will be heading towards the target ascent!

14:32

1. Quarterfinals

After the start, it is not surprising that the two favorites take the lead and shape the race. Skistad runs on the one, Dahlqvist ranks behind. For the moment, Alina Meier is in a midfield position.

14:30

1. Quarterfinals

The first quarterfinals are coming up! Two of the favorites for the medals are Kristine Stavås Skistad from Norway and Maja Dahlqvist from Sweden. Alina Meier from Switzerland, among others, competes with them, although she is one of the outsiders in this heat.

14:22

Three DSV starters

From the German team, Laura Gimmler qualified fourth, Coletta Rydzek qualified 23rd and Victoria Carl qualified 24th. Sofie Krehl, the fourth DSV athlete, only failed by a hair’s breadth. She finished 31st, falling by just a few hundredths. The Austrians have no female athletes in competition.

14:18

That’s how the qualification went

In the qualification at noon, Swede Jonna Sundling was the fastest athlete on the track. She beat her teammate Emma Ribom with a time of 3:22.89. Kristine Stavås Skistad from Norway finished third ahead of Laura Gimmler from the DSV team.

14:14

Fähndrich goes on a medal hunt

Nadine Fähndrich from Switzerland certainly belongs to the inner circle of favorites. She has already won three sprints this winter, one of them in the classic technique. In addition to her, Alina Meier also made it into the knockout phase.

14:08

Balanced field

Especially in the classic sprint, the number of favorites is large. In all of the classic sprints this winter, a different athlete ended up at the top of the podium. The Swedes, who are always strong in the sprint, want to get involved, but also the Norwegians around the Weng sisters.

14:03

The mode

For all those who take the World Championships as an opportunity to follow the cross-country sprints for the first time, here is an overview of the procedure: In the quarter-finals, the 30 starters are divided into five runs with six athletes each. The two fastest of each heat and the two best “lucky losers” advance to the semi-finals of the top twelve. The game is repeated there and the two best athletes of the two runs and two “lucky losers” advance to the final.

13:54

Cross-country skiing marks the start of the Nordic World Ski Championships

On the first day of the World Championships, the cross-country skiers will start right away and the sprint in the classic technique is on the program.
