Who starts when?

Tiril Udnes Weng with start number 34 will be the first of the favorites on the track. Jessie Diggins and Kerttu Niskanen follow with 36 and 38. The other favorites, Krista Pärmäkoski (54), Eirin Kjersti Kalvaa (56), Katharina Hennig (58) will only go out on the track towards the end. Laura Gimmler is the first German to start with number three. Krehl (8), Lohmann (18), Carl (40) and Rydzek (43) will follow. The ÖSV runner Teresa Stadlober is number 42 in the row, Lea Fischer is sent with number 59 immediately after Katharina Hennig in the track.

The other German-speaking starters

In addition to Katharina Hennig, five other DSV runners are at the start with Laura Gimmler, Sofie Krehl, Lisa Lohmann, Victoria Carl and Coletta Rydzek. A top 10 finish is most likely from Carl, who wasn’t as strong yesterday in the sprint and is a bit stronger in the skating area. For Laura Gimmler and maybe also Coletta Rydzek, placements around ranks 15 to 20 are realistic. Teresa Stadlober (AUT) has a good chance today to finish in the top 10 for the first time this season. Lea Fischer is at the start for Switzerland, while Nadine Fähndrich is taking a break today.

The favourites

Will Katharina Hennig manage her first World Cup victory today? This question is absolutely justified, as consistently as the best German is on the road this winter. Last weekend, she narrowly lost to Jessie Diggins from the United States in second place. In the classic style, the tide could now turn. The Swede Frida Karlsson, who is leading the distance World Cup, is definitely one of the favourites. You also have to have the World Cup leader Tiril Udnes Weng (NOR) and her compatriot Eirin Kjersti Kalvaa on the list. Not to be forgotten are the two Finns, Krista Pärmäkoski and Kerttu Niskanen, who are improving from race to race.

Flashback to yesterday

Nadine Fähndrich was finally able to turn her top form into a podium place on Friday and won the sprint quite confidently. The World Cup leader from Norway, Lotta Udnes Weng, was able to significantly increase her lead with second place. The podium was completed by Johanna Matintalo from Finland. The real sensation of the day, however, was that the previously dominant Swedes missed the final as a whole. Best DSV runner was Laura Gimmler with twelfth place.

Today’s format

After the classic sprint the day before, the stage once again belongs to the specialists in classic technique. Over the 10-kilometer individual distance, however, not only finisher qualities are required, but also stamina and speed. The Finn Anni Alakoski, who is sent out on the track at ten o’clock, makes the start. The athletes are then sent off at intervals of 30 seconds. The last of the 64 starters is Tereza Beranova (CZE), who will receive the starting signal at 10:32.
