    Wins for Klæbo!

In the remaining meters to the finish, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo demonstrates his strength, leaves the competition behind and takes victory. Håvard Solås Taugbøl and Even Northug complete the Norwegian triple victory. Although Antoine Cyr missed the podium, the Canadian can be very happy with fourth place. Richard Jouve and James Schoonmaker complete the top six.

  • 3:39 p.m

    All hands together

As in the semi-finals, Jouve is not afraid to run from the front. But Klæbo doesn’t wait long to take a leading position. Just when the pace threatens to slow down, the Frenchman pushes. Nobody has been left behind yet. In the last corner, Northug also shows himself in front.

  • 3:39 p.m

    final

There are ultimately three Norwegians in the men’s final. Top favorite Johannes Høsflot Klæbo has compatriots Håvard Solås Taugbøl and Even Northug with him. Richard Jouve, Antoine Cyr and James Schoonmaker provide the international splashes of color.

  • 3:20 p.m

    Ground fails

On the descent, Valerio Grond catches up brilliantly, hits the inside in the last corner and is in business. But then the Swiss is passed through. The Norwegians work it out among themselves, Northug wins ahead of Taugbøl. There is a photo finish behind it. Ultimately there is enough time for Antoine Cyr and James Schoonmaker. Both move into the final as lucky losers. Now it’s back to the women and their final.

  • 15:18

    Second semi-final

Then it applies to Valerio Grond. The Swiss hope will face Håvard Solås Taugbøl and his Norwegian compatriot Even Northug. The run is completed by Antoine Cyr, Oskar Svensson and James Schoonmaker. Grond is unlucky, the stick breaks. Although a replacement is available quite quickly, the Swiss are still in last place. And there is a gap.

  • 3:15 p.m

Klæbo and Jouve in the final

In the end it works as it almost always does. Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is in the lead at the start of the home straight and once again confidently runs home. Richard Jouve actually manages to break into the Norwegian phalanx and reaches the final in second place. Sivert Wiig and Ansgar Evensen are hoping for that time. Overall World Cup leader Harald Østberg Amundsen was eliminated in sixth place.

  • 14:59

    First semi-final

No less than five Norwegians gather in the first semi-final run, led by Johannes Høsflot Klæbo. Harald Østberg Amundsen, the competitor in the fight for the overall World Cup, is also involved here. Erik Valnes still has a theoretical chance of winning the small crystal ball. There are also Ansgar Evensen and Sivert Wiig. The only non-Norwegian is Richard Jouve from France. And he doesn’t let himself be frightened and immediately takes the lead.

  • 14:56

    Stölben fails

Håvard Solås Taugbøl actually proves to be the strongest, moving into the semi-finals first and taking Oskar Svensson with him. The run is too slow, meaning everyone else has no chance. Jan Stölben is eliminated in fifth place. The lucky losers come from heat three and are called James Schoonmaker and Harald Østberg Amundsen. So the man in yellow will score well today. Now let’s switch to women.

  • 14:53

    Fifth quarterfinal

Jan Stölben is involved in the last quarter-final run. The only German has two Swedes against him, Marcus Grate and Oskar Svensson. Finland is also represented twice – with Niilo Moilanen and Emil Liekari. The closest competitor is probably the Norwegian Håvard Solås Taugbøl. Stölben approaches it carefully, but sticks with it.

  • 14:51

    Grond in the semi-finals

On the home straight, Valerio Grond prevails, pushes his foot forward on the line and wins this heat ahead of Even Northug. In the last few meters, Sindre Skar tries everything, practically throws himself into the finish, but four hundredths are missing. And there isn’t enough time for the third party to move forward.

  • 2:48 p.m

    Fourth quarterfinal

Now it’s Valerio Grand’s turn. Competing with the Swiss are the Norwegians Even Northug and Sindre Skar, the Swedes Emil Danielsson and Johan Häggström and the Frenchman Jules Chappaz. Skar uses the shady side on the descent and slides effortlessly to the top while crouching.

  • 2:44 p.m

Amundsen hopes as a lucky loser

Ansgar Evensen pushes forward in the last corner and can no longer be stopped on the way to the finish. The Norwegian wins ahead of Antoine Cyr, who holds his own against James Schoonmaker at the same time in the photo finish. Harald Østberg Amundsen only comes fourth despite all his efforts, but finds himself in the two lucky loser places together with the American.

  • 14:41

    Third quarterfinal

Now we see the man in yellow. Harald Østberg Amundsen is fighting for his lead in the overall World Cup, facing the US boy James Schoonmaker, Antoine Cyr from Canada, Ansgar Evensen from Norway, Théo Schely from France and the Czech Michal Novák. Amundsen puts pressure on the front and ensures a quick run.

  • 2:38 p.m

    Chanavat outside

In the end the French work well together. But ultimately only Richard Jouve, who wins this race, benefits from this. Lucas Chanavat, on the other hand, has to let Sivert Wiig pass on the home straight. The Norwegian comes second. And there isn’t enough time for Chanavat to make it as a lucky loser.

  • 2:34 p.m

    Second quarterfinal

The favorites in the second heat are the French Lucas Chanavat and Richard Jouve. Lauri Vuorinen from Finland, Luděk Šeller from the Czech Republic, Zak Ketterson from the USA and Sivert Wiig from Norway seem to be just accessories. Chanavat is hesitant to get away from the start, but is then able to quickly close the gap again. The American uses this to ensure speed up front.

  • 2:32 p.m

    Klæbo confidently

Klæbo does it all over again and doesn’t let anything burn. As expected, the Olympic champion has compatriot Erik Valnes in tow. The two move safely into the semi-finals. Edvin Anger and Zanden McMullen, who are placed behind, have to hope for time and the lucky loser classification.

  • 2:30 p.m

    First quarterfinal

In the first men’s quarterfinal, Johannes Høsflot takes on Klæbo and faces Erik Valnes. With Renaud Jay we have a Frenchman with us. Sweden is represented by Edvin Anger. They are joined by Zanden McMullen from the USA and Joni Mäki from Finland.

  • 13:42

    Favorites

When it comes to men, it’s once again all about Johannes Høsflot Klæbo. The Olympic champion and world champion already set the fastest time in qualifying. Under certain circumstances, the Norwegian could make it clear that he won the small crystal ball. Erik Valnes and Lucas Chanavat, however, will do everything in their power to prevent an early decision. Richard Jouve is certainly also a candidate for the day’s podium; the Frenchman came second in the prologue. Harald Østberg Amundsen was third at midday and is hoping for big points to consolidate his lead in the overall World Cup.

  • 13:33

    Ground for Switzerland

The Swiss also started the day in Drammen with two athletes. While Ilan Pittier failed in qualifying in 40th place, Valerio Grond managed to advance. The 21st of the prologue then starts in the fourth quarter-final run.

  • 13:24

    Moser and Föttinger eliminated

Two Austrians qualified, but Benjamin Moser (38th) and Michael Föttinger (48th) both got stuck, which is why the red-white-red Alpine republic is not represented in the quarter-finals.

  • 1:15 p.m

    Stölben is the only German

Of the two German starters in the qualification, only Jan Stölben made it to the quarter-finals. The 22-year-old ran the sixth best time and will then compete in the final heat. In contrast, Anian Sossau was a good second too slow in 36th place in the prologue.

  • 1:06 p.m

    Drammen

For the penultimate sprint of the World Cup winter, the athletes traveled to Drammen, located not far and southwest of the Norwegian capital Oslo. The city is located on an arm of the Oslofjord. The elite cross-country skiers have been meeting here for sprint competitions for around 20 years.
