Cross-country skier Jonas Dobler from SC Traunstein ends his successful career after the World Cup races in Oslo. The 32-year-old, who last won the bronze medal in the relay at the Nordic World Ski Championships, will contest his last World Cup race at Holmenkollen.

Dobler was a member of the DSV cross-country squad for more than ten years. He took part in the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in 2018 and in Beijing in 2022, and he also competed in five World Championships. At his last World Championships in Planica a few weeks ago, he surprisingly won the bronze medal in the relay.

The Bavarian, who completed a total of 161 individual races, made his World Cup debut
in December 2011 in Rogla, Slovenia. The long-distance specialist made it onto the podium twice in the World Cup, and he achieved his best result in the overall World Cup in the 2015/2016 season when he finished 27th. Now he is putting an end to competitive sports.

Career highlight with World Cup bronze at the end “In the last few months I have decided that I will retire from competitive sports. I really enjoyed the last year of training and competitions. I am very grateful that I was able to go my own individual way to some extent “So Dobler said in a statement to the DSV.

He is particularly pleased that he can stop with a historic success: “It couldn’t be nicer than giving up my skis after the biggest success of my career, the bronze medal in the World Championship relay.”

Studies and family will be number one in the future

Dobler also said he was looking forward to a new chapter in his life – both professionally and privately. In August he would like to start a dual course of study. He and his wife Carla will soon be parents for the first time.

“We will miss Jonas as an athlete, but first and foremost as a person, and we wish him all the best for his life and career,” said sports director Andreas Schlütter, who emphasized his importance for the team competitions: “He was in the relay competitions always an important support and, as recently seen in Planica, a constant.”
