World Championship second and third
Zlatko Dalic remains loyal to the Croatian national team and could soon become the most-played manager. The 56-year-old signed a new contract with the seventh in the world rankings on Saturday until 2026, previously his working paper expired after the EM 2024 in Germany.
Dalic took over from predecessor Ante Cacic in October 2017 and led the team in its first major tournament to the 2018 World Cup final, which they lost to France (2-4). At the EURO 2020 it was over against Spain in the round of 16, at the World Cup in Qatar Croatia won a medal again with third place. In total, Dalic was on the sidelines in 70 games, only four games are missing until the record holder Miroslav Blazevic (1994-2000) (on the coaching history).

“I would like to thank the President and the entire association for the trust and support. There is no better job for me, none that honors me more than leading Croatia as a coach. I’m really looking forward to the future,” Dalic was quoted as saying by the Croatian association HNS.
