Croatia qualifies for Final Four, Denmark fuels confidence against World Cup opponent France | Orange

Croatia has reached the Final Four of the Nations League thanks to a great victory over Austria (1-3). The 2018 World Cup finalist therefore ends up above Denmark, which still set world champions France aside (2-0).

Croatia led the group and was certain of the last four in the tournament with a victory. Zlatko Dalić’s team quickly took the lead via Luka Modric. But within three minutes Christoph Baumgartner headed the home team alongside. It remained the same for a long time, and Croatia was heading for a disappointment. But in the 69th minute it was former Inter player Marko Livaja who headed his side back into the lead. And minutes later, Dejan Lovren nodded in the decision.

Denmark has therefore not been able to reach the Final Four, but the team of Kasper Hjulmand has tanked confidence against France. Thanks to a ‘real striker goal’ from former Ajax player Kasper Dolberg and a goal from Andrea Olsen, the Danes had already pushed the world champion aside in the first half. France fired no fewer than 14 shots in the match, of which 8 on target, but was unable to pass Kasper Schmeichel. Denmark and France will also face each other in the group stage at the World Cup. Austria did not qualify for the World Cup and is now also relegated a division lower in the Nations League.

Poland avoids relegation

In the group of the Netherlands and Belgium, Poland managed to stay in the top division of the Nations League. Before that, they were not allowed to lose to Wales. After a chaotic first half it was still 0-0, but in the second half it was Karol Swiderski who gave the away team the lead on a pass from Robert Lewandowski. With that, the midfielder also signed for the final score.

Wales took only 1 point in six games – in the home game against Belgium – and were relegated from the top division of the national competition. Page’s team lost to the Orange squad both at home (1-2) and away (3-2) in stoppage time.

Wales will participate in the World Cup at the end of this year, for the first time since 1958.

Painful loss Turkey

Turkey failed to close the Nations League with a win. On a visit to the Faroe Islands, the team of Stefan Kuntz, who also miss the World Cup, lost 2-1. Turkey was already certain of promotion in the Nations League. For Faroe Islands it meant the second victory in the competition, but ended up in third place in the group because Luxembourg was too strong for Lithuania 1-0.
