Criticism of plans to abolish the obligation to isolate people infected with the corona virus by May 1 is getting sharper.
The social association VdK accused the federal and state health ministers of “completely relying on the “principle of infection””. “The protection of risk groups apparently no longer plays any role in politics,” said VdK President Verena Bentele on Tuesday in Berlin.
Very old people, those in need of care, people with disabilities and the chronically ill are rightly concerned about being infected with Corona and are dependent on solidarity. “Many of them and many of their loved ones will need to confine themselves even more and isolate themselves from May onwards. It will then also become more and more likely that the virus will be carried into care facilities after all, ”said Bentele. “This policy endangers human lives.”
The Federal Association of Doctors in the Public Health Service (BVÖGD) criticized the fact that the obligation to isolate should also be dropped for infected people with symptoms. For them, as for infected employees in the medical and nursing sector, if there is positive corona evidence, isolation should continue to apply for five or seven days, said BVÖGD Vice President Elke Bruns-Philipps of the Düsseldorf “Rheinische Post”. “Untargeted citizen tests” and quarantine for household members and close contacts, on the other hand, are no longer necessary.

Isolation from May 1st only voluntary
The health ministers of the federal and state governments had agreed on Monday that from May 1st, people infected with corona and contact persons would usually only have to be in isolation or quarantine voluntarily and for a short period of time.
In the future, infected people will only be “strongly recommended” to isolate themselves for five days and avoid contacts – it should apply accordingly to contact persons of infected people. There is no order from the health department. Stricter requirements should remain for employees in healthcare and care who have become infected.
