The woman fled Cuba in 1964, after breaking with her brothers during the Cuban revolution five years earlier. From Miami she then regularly attacked the two verbally. In the early 1960s, while she still lived in Cuba, she worked with the American secret service CIA. She did so under the code name Donna, in an attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro’s regime, she admitted many years later.

Fidel Castro died in 2016. Raúl Castro, who is still alive and is now 92 years old, succeeded his brother as president of Cuba from 2008 to 2018. In 2021, he resigned as head of the island’s communist party.
