Wednesday, January 10, marked the first month of Javier Milei’s presidency. But that was not the only anniversary of the date. The other was the absence on the public stage of Cristina Kirchner. The last time the former vice president was seen was, precisely, at the libertarian’s inauguration, where she appeared smiling next to him. But “the boss” was far from being on vacation. Despite her stay in El Calafate, CFK monitors the start of the Government and moves its chips. And it is not the only one.
Connected
In truth, her last appearance was in the final days of last year. There she saw Cristina at Aeroparque, smiling for the photos and even signing a Gimnasia de La Plata t-shirt, a club of which she is a fan. But although she rested in the South – where she received the year – until the first days of January, she was not inactive.
The one who put it into words was the senator Jose Mayans, who forged a close relationship with her when she presided over the Upper House. “I spoke with Cristina. “She is very worried about all this,” she said in reference to the mega DNU. And those who know how the former president moves confirm it. “Mayans doesn’t say it in public by chance. That is a message from her, so that it is known about her that she is still active,” they say. It is true that it had not been the only sign. Before saying goodbye to her last public position in the Senate, she left a phrase for her people. “I’m going to be here very close, in the Patria, two blocks away. So, whatever, you know where to find me,” she said as she greeted House workers.
The Institute, on Rodríguez Peña Street, does not register much activity for now. Yeah CFK has already returned to occupy his office It is a mystery there, but it is assumed that she is already installed again in her apartment in the Recoleta neighborhood. However, the signal there was different: the Patria was Cristina’s headquarters during the last stretch of the Macrismo, from where she commanded the opposition and the place where the first meeting between her and Alberto Fernández took place. Did she want to give the idea that she is going to return to that stage of resistance? These are doubts that time will be able to answer.
Tribes
Those who speak with her say that the center of her attention is on the treatment of the omnibus law in the Chamber of Deputies. “We have to follow what Vanesa (Siley) and Leopoldo (Moreau) say. They talk a lot with Cristina,” they say. Both were among the most critical of the project. “Do you think you will be able to govern under these conditions? How wrong they are,” Moreau launched. “Cristina thinks something like that. She believes that the government of Milei is going to crash alone against the wall, that’s why he insists that now we have to be careful and cautious with the steps to take,” they say close to him.
Another line of interpretation also opens up. The thing is that several in the K universe see with satisfaction the President’s at least declared intention – as he said on the day of the inauguration – of “not persecuting opponents” in Justice, contrary to what they think happened under Macri. “That is why you also have to see carefully what you are doing. If Milei wears the country as a hat, who will grab it? Macri and Villarruel? And who is stopping them there?” they suspect in these corridors. The thesis of a spurious agreement between the former president and Milei’s vice president is growing in this world.
His son, however, seems to be on a different note. Máximo had a media raid where he targeted the President squarely and called him Macri’s puppet. It would seem that the leader of La Cámpora proposes a more aggressive approach than that of his mother: in secret, he tried to remain within the group of deputies who made up the commission in which the omnibus law was discussed before he goes to the enclosure. They finally managed to convince him otherwise. Several on the bench They feared not only the exposure that Máximo could havebut also for some possible sneakiness if it was his turn to speak.
Among everything that happens, from the planet Cristina they also follow what happens with their former traveling companions. Alberto Fernández’s appearance in a luxury restaurant in Spain (see box) was harshly criticized and revived the wounds between the two. On the other hand, Sergio Massa’s movements raise more doubts. Not only because of the presence of some Tigrense allies in the Government, but also because of what he transcended from his meeting with the CGT, where he raised some objections about the timing of the strike announced for January 24. But “the boss,” they say, sees everything. And she is far from being just another retiree.
