Cristiano Ronaldo starved the crowd. The superstar may even miss the opening of the World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo received a red card on Thursday when Portugal faced Ireland in the World Cup qualifying match. The superstar did not react well to the historic outing.
According to The Athletic Swedish judge Glenn Nyberg first picked up a yellow card, but a glance at the Var monitor made me change my mind. Ronaldo had elbowed Ireland a moment earlier Dara O’Shea back.
Ronaldo sent outrageous greetings to the booing Irish audience. He made crying gestures towards the audience.
When the superstar’s first send-off in the history of the national team was confirmed, Ronaldo clapped ironically.

When leaving the field, the forward also gave verbal feedback to Ireland’s head coach For Heimir Hallgrímsson. In the end, however, the men shook hands, and Ronaldo pressed into the suit covers.
Ronaldo has received 12 red cards in his career, but never before for the men’s national team. He has scored a record 143 goals in the adult national team.
Ireland won the match 2–0.
Banned from the World Cup?

Ronaldo’s red card also raised an interesting speculation about a suspension.
The Athletic reminds us that, depending on the severity of the foul, sending off usually results in a ban of 1-3 games. For elbow strikes, a suspension of at least three matches or “as long as deemed appropriate in the case of other fouls” is recommended.
The Portuguese captain will therefore be on the sidelines on Sunday, when the team plays its final World Cup qualifying match against Armenia. Portugal must win that game if the team wants a direct place in next year’s World Cup.
According to the rules of the international football association Fifa, the suspension given in the qualifiers also continues until the final tournament. So if Ronaldo were to receive a ban longer than one match and Portugal were to qualify directly for the World Cup, the team would have to play at least the opening match without their captain.
If Portugal were second in their group, they would advance to the World Cup play-offs. At that time, Ronaldo would suffer his possible suspension in those matches, and not in the World Cup finals.
The World Cup will be played next year in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
