A mess of promises and insufficient funding have watered down the plans of the Portuguese brand hotel.
Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo a hotel project in his former hometown of Manchester is at a standstill with no information on future steps.
In December 2020, Ronaldo, together with his hotel business partner Pestana, received the right to build in the center of his former hometown, with the plan to turn the defunct building into a CR7 luxury hotel.
According to the original project plan, the hotel with 151 rooms and employing 900 people was supposed to open this year, but it has still not been possible to start the renovation work in the historic site.
The Sun magazine presents a story about the topic in his story Manchester City Council images showing the current state of the building. The interior looks exactly as you might expect, because the house has not been used for two decades.
The building right for the site expired on December 16.
Pestana’s spokesperson tells the British newspaper that the project is on hold due to permit problems. According to The Sun, investors have also had difficulties in raising the necessary funding.
The situation is certainly disappointing for the locals as well, as the hotel’s operation was promised to bring income to Manchester’s economy of 56 million pounds (according to the current exchange rate, 64.5 million euros).
