Cristiano Ronaldo asks for a refund from Irpef of 4-5 million euros

The taxes paid by the Portuguese champion in the Juventus period would be the result of an incorrect interpretation of what is owed to the State, according to the player’s lawyers

Cristiano Ronaldo has attempted to obtain a refund of Irpef for a sum between 4 and 5 million euros. These are taxes already regularly paid by the Portuguese champion during the period in which he played for Juventus, but which – according to the request he presented – would be the result of an incorrect interpretation of what is due to the State with respect to the law which offers some tax privileges to those who – against a certain income – move to Italy.

LITIGATION

CR7 made use of the support of a team of top-level tax and legal experts, in order to make its management of Italian taxes flawless: the dispute revolves around image rights for activities carried out abroad, which – according to the consultants of the Portuguese attacker – for a broader interpretation of the rule they would be linked to a facilitated taxation, since the law allows – those who move to Italy – to pay a lump sum of 100 thousand euros (which is reduced to 25 per family members) for all income produced abroad. However, the appeal against the Revenue Agency was rejected twice, with a negative opinion, by the Court of Tax Justice of Piedmont: now the dispute will move to the Court of Cassation.
