The municipality of Hapert will receive asylum seekers in the short term. It concerns emergency shelter, because it is much too busy at the national application center in Ter Apel. People have to sleep outside there regularly. There will also be extra reception in Boxtel.
A crisis emergency shelter for asylum seekers will be opened from September 14 to October 5 at the latest in the building of the former community center Den Tref in Hapert. The municipality of Bladel is responding to the urgent demand of the Security Region, she says.
There is room for a maximum of 115 people. At least 3 security guards are present 24 hours a day. The shelter is led by location managers. Interpreters are available and the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) provides medical and psychological support for the refugees. Because this is a temporary shelter, there will be no play areas for the children, nor is there any education or childcare.
The Hague pays
Residents are allowed to leave the site during the day, but they must stay inside at night. The costs of emergency emergency care are paid by the central government.
Den Tref was chosen because the building has been empty from September and is owned by the municipality. Water and electricity are already present. In addition, the location is large enough to accommodate this group of asylum seekers.
It is not clear from which countries the asylum seekers come. No one at the council was available for an explanation.
boxtel
Boxtel also contributes to alleviating the national shortage of shelter places. The building of the former Rabobank on Stationsstraat in Boxtel is being renovated and equipped to provide temporary shelter for refugees from Ukraine. The intention is that from 1 October the first refugees can be accommodated there. It is not known how many people are involved. The municipality could not be reached for further explanation.
Mayor Ronald van Meygaarden says in a press release: “With the reception we further fulfill our obligations. In addition, we continue to look for expansion of reception capacity. This concerns non-regular housing locations in order not to burden our own housing market.”
On October 1, the shelter for Ukrainian refugees at De Kleine Aarde in Boxtel will close.
