Crisis meeting: Further talks after the dismissal of BVB handball players

Status: 09/12/2022 7:31 p.m

A first crisis meeting after the dismissal of two national players at the handball Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund remained fruitless.

After the meeting on Monday, the participants adjourned and agreed not to disclose the background to the case. “There will be further talks this week. After that we hope to be able to conclude the matter promptly,” said BVB department head Andreas Heiermann on Monday of the German Press Agency. “Water level reports would not be helpful in this situation now.”

Background still unclear

Previously, Heiermann had confirmed that he had not accepted the immediate dismissal of the national players who were currently on sick leave. The parties involved are silent about the reasons for the termination. However, Heiermann had confirmed that representatives of the contact point for violence and abuse in top-class sport should also take part in the meeting on Monday. The “Start Against Violence” initiative was launched by the Athleten Deutschland association, which also did not want to comment on the case.

Association is informed

The chairman of the board of the German Handball Federation, Mark Schober, said on Monday evening before the DHB executive committee meeting on Tuesday that “the facts” were known to the association. “Due to the personal rights of the two players, we are not making any comments, and we are not a party to the current proceedings,” he added.
