Crisis at Club – Rik De Mil: “If there is a new coach here, I will resume my old role”
“I’ve been here for nine years. And the most important thing now is that I focus on Sunday and that Club Brugge can look back up and start winning again. If it turns out to be longer, then I also think I can take up that challenge would absolutely like to take on. But if it turns out that there is a new coach next week, then I will take back the role I had.”
No woolly mood with Rik De Mil, but a trainer who clearly says it like it is this afternoon, at the press conference before the match against Standard. That may also be what the players need after two months of Scott Parker. “Do you have to expect me to transform the entire team? No, no. But I hope we can bring clarity. That we can bring peace back to the players’ heads so that they only have to think about one thing. And that’s going for it on Sunday.”
Group conversation
There was a group discussion. Because it is not only the trainer who ensures the result. “It’s too easy to blame everything on coaches,” says De Mil. “I think players are very aware of that. But it’s up to me, it’s up to us,… because it’s about the whole club, that we can give them the tools to shine again on the pitch.”
And that has to happen against Standard on Sunday. At least once under Rik De Mil.
