Criminals have started phishing campaigns in memory of the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth II. The goal of the criminals is to get the Microsoft login credentials of the victims.

In addition to phishing for usernames, criminals try to steal victims’ multi-step identification codes, which can be used to hijack protected accounts.

The messages are disguised to resemble a message from Microsoft inviting the recipient to honor the Queen’s memory. The format of the message resembles Microsoft’s genuine messages and the Microsoft logo and the “Microsoft Team” signature are used in the message.

Scam messages detected by Proofpoint shared a picture of a scam message trying to get the link in the message to be opened. The link leads to a fake website showing a Microsoft login, through which the recipient is tried to fill in their login information, which ends up directly with the criminals. If you hand over this information and the multi-step identification codes, criminals can access the victim’s account and take control of it.
