Crevits leaves the door ajar for red farms

The nitrogen agreement concluded by the Flemish government before the spring break stipulates, among other things, that 40 farms with a red code – the so-called ‘peak loaders’ – must stop their activities by 2025. The list of red companies initially contained 58 companies, but 18 of them have entered a buyout arrangement. In West Flanders, this concerns five red farms that are forced to stop by 2025.

“Thoroughly examine each file”

Flemish Minister of Agriculture Hilde Crevits (CD&V) shows understanding for the questions and concerns of the agricultural companies involved. In fact, red companies that believe they are wrongly on the list “because they have made efforts to reduce their emissions” can discuss this with the administration, she says.

“Then we will look together whether or not adjustments need to be made. There is an action response and discussion is possible. We have to examine every file thoroughly,” says the CD&V minister.
