It is without a doubt the most ridiculous lawsuit of 2023: the croquette trial of Rachel Hazes. And now, at the end of the year, she suddenly claims: “Cremated croquette? I never minded!”
Rachel Hazes will never be able to let go of it: the bizarre lawsuit she started against Yvonne Coldeweijer. In January she demanded an immediate ban on her nickname ‘cremated croquette’ – really, really strange. It was counterproductive and people en masse said it was a shame that the judge went along with it, because that affects freedom of expression.
Croquette process
Because there was so much astonishment about that ruling – and astonishment was widely shared – Yvonne announced an appeal. A day later, Rachel suddenly shouted that Yvonne could simply continue to say ‘cremated croquette’: “My lawyer will confirm to her lawyer that no penalty payments will be made for this.”
Yvonne subsequently canceled her appeal. She may have lost that lawsuit, but Rachel is of course the real loser to this day. Her image has suffered greatly from the croquette process. And now, at the end of the year, Rachel shouts in her club magazine Story suddenly she had no trouble at all with that nickname!
‘Never a problem’
Rachel claims she has never hated that nickname. “I’ve never had a problem with people calling me a cremated croquette. That lawsuit against Yvonne Coldeweijer was purely about the fact that I was accused of passing on a letter from my son André junior.”
André himself also suspects her of this. Yet Rachel insists: “That was untrue. My lawyer also defended me because I was narcissistic, toxic and was called manipulative. That was unnecessarily offensive. In that list I was also called cremated croquette. And it was precisely that term that the media adopted.”
Special containers
Um, yes, the media adopted that term, because it is quite ridiculous to demand that you can no longer be called a cremated croquette. Anyway: now that she has bought a brasserie, Rachel wants to make a profit. “I will of course be selling croquettes. I have even ordered special containers in which they will be placed.”
“I serve croquettes in a plastic coffin. That’s humor,” concludes the Hazes cashier. Yes, that would have been humorous if you had done that instead of the lawsuit… Too little, too late.
