The outdoor outfitter Globetrotter is breaking new ground with the design of its planned store in Bonn. On Wednesday, the retailer unveiled the “unique, sustainable concept” of the store, which is set to open on March 11. “A large part of the equipment from the previous tenant Conrad Electronic was taken over and used further,” the company announced.
When furnishing the so-called “Re:Think store”, the retailer relies on the creative handling of the legacies found. Some of them would be “transformed into something completely new – such as a large bear sculpture made of waste or a test track for hiking shoes, in which old materials were built in according to the patchwork principle,” explained Globetrotter. In addition, “further, used inventory from other Globetrotter branches is reused”. The project was developed and implemented by the creative agency Dan Pearlman and the Hamburg construction company Loom Shopexpansion.
Andreas Vogler, CEO of Globetrotter Geräte GmbH, explained the background of the concept: “The Re:Think Store is one of the most exciting experiments that we at Globetrotter have ever dared. We wanted to make the store as sustainable as possible – and nothing is more sustainable than using materials that are already there,” he said in a statement. “The big challenge with this project was to turn an electronics store into a globetrotter store.”
With the “Re:Think-Store” in Weststadt, Globetrotter replaces its smaller branch in Bonn’s Vorgebirgsstrasse. With 2,150 square meters on two floors, “significantly more space” is available at the new location, the retailer explained. From May he not only wants to present his extensive outdoor range to customers there, but also “numerous sustainable offers” such as his own repair workshop and the purchase and sale of second-hand products.
