Cream Crackers is organizing its own padel tournament at the highest level for the first time. From Friday, the Dutch top can be seen at Corpus den Hoorn.
The Clean Energy P500 tournament, a tournament from the highest category in the Netherlands, will take place at GLTV Cream Crackers from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 April.
The best padeller in the Netherlands compete for the title at Corpus den Hoorn. The strong field of participants includes 14 men from the top 20 and 9 women from the top 20.
No Robben, but Veldmate and Nijholt
Among them Uriel Maarsen, the current number 11 in the Netherlands. Sido Nijholt, former top-10 player in the Netherlands, is also participating, as is Northern topper Mark Veldmate, brother of FC Emmen football player Jeroen and son of FC Groningen scout Henk.
Arjen Robben, who practices the sport very fanatically, has not registered.
Led eyes
At the end of last year, the tennis club at Corpus den Hoorn was saddened to see how the Stadjershal, which Groningen tennis players had been using for years, was sold to De Padellers, a commercial padel company.
,,But then we already had our own padel courts”, chairman Tim Verver explains. ,,And we have always seen and embraced the possibilities and potential of the padel sport.”
The tournament will therefore be played on Cream Crackers’ own courts. And when it rains, people move to Peakz on Bornholmstraat.
