Crazy celebration at winning FC Volendam: "Let’s all dance together"

The relief after the final whistle was enormous at FC Volendam. The players ran towards the away section to celebrate the 1-2 victory at SC Heerenveen. Trainer Michael Dingsdag was serenaded by the 400 supporters who traveled with him. “I was happy. You saw how the party was being celebrated and it was fun,” says Dingsdag.

“We had a battle plan and we struck in the spaces they gave us,” Dingsdag analyzes the match in Friesland. His team only had 23 percent possession of the ball, but still scored twice through Bilal Ould-Chikh and Lequincio Zeefuik. Beforehand, Volendam was less keen to ‘park the bus’, but it still seemed like it was. “The handbrake was applied a little less hard.”

Dancing in the locker room

It was also a real pain in the ass for Milan de Haan. The 20-year-old midfielder played three quarters of the match and experienced the final phase standing in the dugout. “This feels like a big relief,” says De Haan, who was also close to a result against Feyenoord with Volendam last week. “You are going to celebrate this together in the dressing room,” says De Haan, who was dancing in the dressing room himself.

Volendam has played two excellent matches under interim coach Dingsdag. They still lost against Feyenoord in the final phase and in Heerenveen they took three points. However, it is expected that Dingsdag will be an assistant with the first team again after the winter break. “I agreed that it was about these two matches,” says Dingsdag.

The FC Volendam selection will leave for a training camp in Turkey on January 2.
