Crane of 124 meters lifts high-voltage pylon over forest
The demolition of the high-voltage line between Bruges and Eeklo is the final piece of the Stevin project, which brings offshore wind energy into the country. This project was a first step in strengthening the high-voltage grid in West Flanders.
The mast was in the middle of a forest and was therefore completely surrounded by trees. A 124-metre tower crane has lifted the power pylon over the trees to limit any damage to the forest. At the beginning of this year, Elia already demolished several high-voltage pylons in the area. This only now disappeared, so as not to disturb the breeding season of the birds.
On-site recycling
The components of the high-voltage pylon are recycled on site by metal processing company Galloo. That company has a site across the street where the crane is dismantled and further scrapped afterwards.
Demolition high-voltage line
Elia is currently breaking down a high-voltage line (150 Kv) between Bruges and Eeklo. A line of 29 kilometers long that also crosses the territory of Damme and Maldegem. In total, Elia dismantles 95 high-voltage pylons. The works are the final piece of the Stevin project, which will bring offshore wind energy ashore.
