Cracks in the Mandela Bridge: Zoetermeer station and Driemanspolder tram stop inaccessible

The Nelson Mandela Bridge is unsafe and can no longer be used by walkers and cyclists with immediate effect. The Randstadrail stop Driemanspolder and train station Zoetermeer will be unavailable indefinitely.

The bridge suffers from signs of age: there are cracks in a few concrete girders. Consultancy firms made a new calculation in response to the previously observed cracks above the Zuidweg. This showed that the bridge is unsafe for users and that, in extreme cases, there may even be a risk of collapse.

You can now use these stops

The Mandela Bridge will be closed from Friday 2 December at 8 p.m. and we will have to wait and see when we can cross the A12 again at that location. Zoetermeer residents can only take the sprinter at the Lansingerland-Zoetermeer and Zoetermeer Oost stations. The RandstadRail trams (line 3) will not stop at the Driemanspolder stop for the time being. The nearest stops are Dorp and Meerzicht.

Cyclists can reach Driemanspolder and Rokkeveen via the tunnel at Rokkeveenseweg-Zuid and the Balijbrug between Balijbos and Westerpark.

We will keep you informed!

We found out much more for you…
