The crack that appeared in the Gotthard tunnel on Sunday and led to the closure of the car tunnel is due to “stress changes” in the rock above the tunnel, the Swiss road service Astra (Bundesamt für Strassen) said on Wednesday. The service therefore ruled out that the cause could be due to the aging of the infrastructure.
