A cow kept a large number of firefighters busy in Gemonde on Monday. The animal stood in the meadow near the Hooibrugpad in Gemonde and ended up in the river De Dommel for unknown reasons.
Just after five on Monday afternoon, the first report of the cow in the water at the Hooibrugpad in Gemonde. According to a 112 correspondent, eighteen firefighters eventually came to the scene to rescue the animal from the water.
With the help of a special towing team from the Berlicum fire brigade, they managed to reach the cow. The animal was hoisted onto dry land.
But the cow felt like a fish in water in the Dommel and quickly jumped back into the river itself. The animal had to swim regularly, because the Dommel is deeper in some places than elsewhere.
At around a quarter past seven, the firefighters managed to pull the cow to the side again. The animal was taken by the owner. The scene attracted a lot of attention from local residents.
