Cow almost drowns: bystanders keep their heads above water until help arrives

The fire brigade, together with employees of the Brabant Noord-Oost animal ambulance, rescued a cow on Friday that was in danger of drowning in the Dommel near Sint-Oedenrode. Bystanders kept her head above water. The animal was lifted out of the water.

“We tracked down and informed the owner based on his ear tag. He had already lost the animal,” says chairman Rens van Lieshout of the animal ambulance. “We rubbed the animal warm with cloths, because it was severely hypothermic. Firefighters made a hoist and saved him.”

The relief efforts were difficult to get started because the entire area was flooded and the cow was in a place that was difficult to reach. The cow is now on its way to the owner’s stable.
