The administrative court in Frankfurt has banned Sunday shopping on the occasion of a street festival in the Sachsenhausen district. The Verdi union had submitted a corresponding urgent application on behalf of the “Alliance for the Free Sunday in Hesse”. The court granted this.
The reason given on Thursday was that the city had not publicly announced Sunday shopping in Sachsenhausen between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. within the prescribed period of at least three months beforehand, but only on June 24th. An appeal to the Hessian Administrative Court in Kassel is still possible against the decision (Az: 7 L 1754/22).
The Sunday opening of shops has long been controversial. Institutions and organizations from the Evangelical and Catholic churches and the Verdi trade union have joined forces in the “Alliance for the Free Sunday in Hesse” to keep Sunday as a day off. (dpa)
