Court obliges sperm donor to DNA test at the request of a West Flemish donor child
According to her lawyer, it is the first time that the court has issued such a verdict.
The woman who wishes to remain anonymous discovered at the age of eighteen that she was conceived through an anonymous sperm donation in a fertility clinic in Bruges. She found her presumed father on a database. After mediation, the man did not want to provide DNA, so the woman went to court.
The latter now agrees with her because her rights take precedence over those of the privacy of the anonymous donor. The ruling could cause the anonymity of sperm donors to disappear.
