Berlin (dpa -AFX) – The Union faction’s labor market policy spokesman, Marc Biadacz, referred to the increase in expenditure on civil allowance to almost 47 billion euros as a wake -up call. The development increases the reform pressure significantly, the CDU politician told the “Handelsblatt” and added to the address of department chief Bärbel Bas (SPD): “The Federal Ministry of Labor must now deliver.”
In 2024, the state paid around 46.9 billion euros for people in the citizen benefit – around four billion euros more than a year earlier, as can be seen from the response from the Federal Ministry of the Federal Social. In total, there were around 5.5 million recipients in 2024 including children and adolescents, including almost 4 million employees – i.e. people who are fundamentally able to work at least three hours a day.
Germany quickly needs the new basic security agreed in the coalition agreement, focus on the work, placement and clear compensation obligations, said Biadacz. The citizens’ allowance set false incentives instead of consistently relying on work and personal responsibility.
Experts declare the increase in the total amount, among other things, with a significant increase in rule rates 2023 and 2024 as an inflation compensation. A zero round followed this year, this is also expected for 2026./wn/dp/he
